SGC AGM - 10th August 2020
How can you help our region. Our notice calling for nominations is out now. Our committee stands down for reappointment and not all of our committee are coming back in roles on the committee. Are you keen to come on board to our Committee or Sub-Committee? Reach out we would love to hear from you.

2020 SGC Welcome Back to Swimming Short Course Invitational - 5th and 6th September 2020 - pending being able to source a pool suitable to meet COVID restrictions.

We are working to get this happening but please be patient these things take lots of time to get happening. Stage 3 has just recently come into effect and there is a lot to do to get this to happen if we can.

Parent spectators will not be permitted at this event due to our restricted resources for our event. We will be asking parents to help my nominating for a position as a volunteer and this will be limited. Can you assist as a technical official, timekeeper, lane chief, technical official. Without a role you will not be able to attend as a parent.

Our goal is to get our swimmers back in the water to have fun racing again and ensuring we meet all the COVID policies set by Qld Health.

As always talk to your swimmers coach to see if they feel your swimmer is ready to participate in this event. We want our swimmers to have fun with this event and get back to racing with their friends.

Parents we need your help to help run our region so if you can help please reach out to be involved. How can you help your region get back to swimming?
Thank you Swimming Gold Coast and all the volunteers. Look forward to swimming soon.
Hi all Swimmers,

The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) strategic advice for responding to COVID-19 is to interrupt human-to-human transmission and reduce secondary infections.

This can be achieved through a combination of measures including rapid identification, identification and follow up of the contacts, infection prevention and traveller advice.

WHO calls on all countries to continue efforts to slow the spread of the virus and provide more time to identify effective treatments and develop vaccines. We must stop, contain, control, delay and reduce the impact of this virus at every opportunity.

For up to date information please refer to the Queensland Health up to date facts sheets found here:

Swimming Gold Coast Region Responce to COVID-19
The safety of swimmers, and all involved with swimming is of the upmoast importance to the SGC regional Committee. As per the recomendations of the World Health Organisation, Swimmers and spectators should be reminded to:
* wash hands with soap at every opportunity,
* use hand sanitisers on a regular basis,
* cough into a tissue and immediatley dispose of it, or safetly into your elbow,
* avoid shaking hands and minimise contact with those around them.
Remind your swimmers not to give high fives, or hugs. this is probably one of those occasions where a firm but sincere congratulations should be said from a distance.

If you have travelled and returned to Australia in the past 20 days, please do not attend this weekends meet.

If for any reason you or your swimmer should feel they do not wish to participate this weekend (whether due to your recent retrun from travel, your own illness, worry about being in a crowd, or for any other reason), please do not hessitate to contact our lovely Race Secretary on racesecretary@swimminggoldcoast.org.au and ask to withdraw from the meet. You will receive a full refund no matter the reason. Don't put your swimmer or yourself under any duress because you have paid for an event.

And finally a reminder from our email yeasterday, all international swimmers attending our meet have been in Australia swimming within our clubs for more than the past 20 days. For humanitarian reasons if you see them say hi (from a distance) and welcome them to our meet like we would any swimmer at any other time.

With Kind Regards
Management Committee

Be Quick!!
Hi Swimming Parents, this weekend SGC will be first in Australia to implement Self Marshalling at club level events. Yeap, sounds scary right? It's different right? It will probably all go wrong, right? Wrong.....

We can all come together and do this as well as, if not better than, the other countries that have been doing it for years.

Three simple steps and we can 'ALL' make this a positive change.

1: Ensure your swimmers are aware of the change and understand they need to "turn up" at the start end of the pool a few heats before their race. It would help the younger ones if you write their heats and lane numbers on their arm so they remember them. (and so the lane chiefs can spot it). Keep an eye and ear on which event is swimming in the pool. The same as you would listen to "Marshalling to event x" Announcements, listen for "in the pool" announcements.

2: Point your swimmers to their coaches. Coaches are across the process and the first ones to assist their squads. Your swimmer should be sitting with their team, and close to their coach. Your coach may need the help of a team manager, put your hand up and volunteer to assist all swimmers. Most important, talk with your clubs coaches and work together as a team to make sure your swimmers get the most from any meet.

3: Yeap, it can be scary when something changes, but it's usually us as parents that get worried, our kiddoes are very smart. Given the information in a positive and reassuring way, our kiddoes will make it happen. Just watch! Reassure them and have them report to their coach for final instructions.

Spare a thought for the clubs making this happen this weekend. They are volunteers just like all of us. Help them by volunteering where possible, by doing that time keeping role, by stepping up when asked. if you cant, work between your team members to figure out how you can help.

All Tech Officials on deck, as well as all volunteers in pink or orange vests, are there to help. Don't hesitate to ask any questions, don't hesitate to provide all positive input. Suggestions are fantastic, negativity helps no one. There are many digital and face to face opportunities to provide input to the process and help make this a fantastic transition for all swimming in Australia. If you want to know how this will tick, check out self marshalling under the resources tab on swimmingoldcoast.org.au

Cant wait to see you all at one of the two meets this weekend!
It looks like the girls had a great time swapping shirts with the Japanese swimmers
Congratulations to our own Michael Cox on being the 2019 recipient of the Technical Official prestigious John Keppie Award.
Hmm .... not sure who knows what? Who had the most fun today? John Whale Warren Dopson Ronald McDonald? Is this clown alley?
Exciting news Gold Coast. Last club meet on the Gold Coast for 2019, and the last time we see a 50mtr marshalling area. SELF MARSHALLING coming to all Gold Coast club meets 2020!!
Saturday is McHappy Day and as a proud supporter of Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia Swimming Qld are putting on our silly socks and asking you to head to your nearest McDonald's restaurant and donate by purchasing a Big Mac or pair of silly socks. Money raised on #mchappyday goes towards providing a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families 👏
