Swimming Gold Coast considers the development of our regions swimmers a high priority. Each year Swimming Gold Coast host a number of development activities aimed at financial members within our region. These events are invitation only and swimmers are invited to the events based upon both participation at events within the Swimming Gold Coast region as well as qualifying criteria set by the SGC Development Sub-Committee.

The following Development events have been scheduled within the SGC region.

  • 29th June 2021 – Patron Shield Preparation Clinic – 9-10yrs (9.30am – 11.30am) & 11-12yrs (12.00pm – 2.00pm)
  • 30th June 2021 – Inter Regional Challenge Preparation Clinic – 13-17yrs (10.00am – 12.00pm)
  • 18th August 2021 – SGC Coaches Conference – location and time – TBC
  • 18th September 2021 – Patron Shield Team Bonding Event – location and time – TBC
  • 19th September 2021 – Patron Shield – Fairholme College, Toowoomba
  • 22nd & 23rd September 2021 – Development Clinics – TBC
  • 29th September – 1st October 2021 – Inter-Regional Challenge Camp – Location TBC
  • 1st October 2021 – Inter-Regional Challenge – Location TBC (Evening Event)
  • 11th December 2021 – QLD State Championships – Regional Relays – Chandler Aquatic Centre

Development events are constantly under review, however, the website will be updated to reflect any changes to the above mentioned programs.

Swimming Clinics:

  • Patron Shield Preparation Clinic

Clinic Date:

Tuesday 29th June 2021 – 9-10yrs – 9.30am – 11.30am

Tuesday 29th June 2021 – 11-12yrs – 12.00pm – 2.00pm

Description:

Swimming Gold Coast will be hosting the Patron Shield Preparation Clinic on Tuesday 29th June at the All Saints Anglican College pool. There will be two (2) sessions conducted. The first will be for swimmers aged 9-10 as at 30th June 2021. This will be held from 9.30am until 11.30am. The afternoon session will be for swimmers aged 11-12 as at 29th June 2021. This will be held from midday until 2pm.

This will be a junior drills, skills & rules workshop, preparing swimmers for the up and coming short course race meets and potentially towards the SGC Patron Shield team. Participation in this clinic is not mandatory for consideration for the SGC Patron Shield Team. Swimmers who meet the eligibility criteria, are asked to submit their expression of interest through the registration link below, which will open from 5pm on Friday 18th June 2021.

Clinic Content

Focus for the session will be around racing drills and skills, with a brief session on swimming rules.  

Numbers are strictly limited to 32 on a first in basis for each session.

Eligibility

To be eligible to participate a swimmer must:

  • Be a competitive member of a Swimming Gold Coast Swimming Club;
  • Be in the following age group categories: 9 – 10 years, or 11 – 12 years;
  • Ages as of the date of the camp – 29th June 2021;
  • Seek the permission of their coach.

The invitation for attendance also requests that swimmers gain the approval of their coaches to attend the session. Please speak to your coach before you RSVP to the session.

No catering will be provided at these sessions, so please bring your own water and snacks.

2021 SGC Coaches Conference

SGC is putting together a coaching conference series to be conducted throughout the season. Each event will focus on a topic that has been decided by SGC in consultation with Brant Best and our SGC coaches.

We are looking to conduct these sessions as a trial basis for this year to determine the buy-in by gold coast coaches in terms of attendance and feedback.

These events will be held away from the in a conference setting, with lunch and drinks provided.

We are waiting to confirm dates and venues, but are looking at conducting these conferences within the following months:

  • August 2021 – Addressing the Divide – Mindset and Effective Communication
  • October 2021 – 
  • January 2022 –

2021 Patron Shield

Each year the following regions meet to compete for the Patron Shield

  • Swimming Gold Coast 
  • Brisbane Swimming Association
  • Wide Bay Swimming Association
  • Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association

The event for 2021 is to be conducted by the Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association at the Fairholme College Aquatic Centre, Bridge St, Toowoomba on Sunday September 19th.

Rules and Conduct of the meet:

  • Competitors must be between the ages of 9 and 13 as at day of competition, TBC.
  • Swimmers can complete in a maximum of 3 individual and 2 relay events.
  • Freestyle relays are 10x25m and must consist of (2) swimmers from each age group- 9’s to 13’s. (Starting order is at the discretion of the Team Managers).
  • Regions may nominate two Relay Teams (A&B) for the 10x25m relays and for the aged (4 x 50m) medley relays and points will be awarded to all teams.
  • Multi Class events for swimmers 15 years and under, with a maximum of 4 individual events.
  • SQ rules apply, any disputes will be adjudicated by the Meet Referee.
  • This is a Short Course Qualifying Meet.

This is an “invitation only” event

Swimmers are invited by GCRSA to swim for the Gold Coast Region team, and the selection of the swimmers is at the discretion of the Swimming Gold Coast executive. The criteria, this year, will be based on meet results  from the Swimming Gold Coast short course season, as follows:

  • Southport Olympic Development Meet – 5th June 2021
  • All Saints Transition Meet – 19th June 2021
  • Helensvale Transition Meet – 4th July 2021
  • SGC SC Championships @ Bond – 31st July – 1st August

The following Swimming Queensland Meet will also be taken into consideration:

  • Speedo Short Course Preparation Meet – 10th July

Swimmers that can swim and have met the criteria (at least top 4 in the region in any given event) in multiple events will be given preference.  

The Patrons Shield will be awarded, to the Team with the highest total points, on the following basis:

  • Individuals: 1st – 8 points; 2nd – 7 points; 3rd – 6points; 4th – 5 points; 5th – 4 points; 6th – 3 points; 7th – 2 points; 8th – 1 point.
  • Relays: Double points of those for Individual Events.

2021 SGC Regional Relay Team

 2021 SGC Regional Relay Team for 2021 McDonald’s QLD Championships

The 2021 QLD State Regional Relay Championships will be conducted on Saturday 11th December 2021 proceeding the 2021 QLD State Club Relay Championships at Chandler Aquatic Centre.

Thursday 20th January 2022 – 10:00am – 2:00pm

Description:

Swimming Gold Coast will be hosting a development clinic on Thursday 21st January from 10.00am till 2.00pm at a facility TBD. This will be a junior skills workshop, preparing swimmers for the up and coming race meets and beyond. Swimmers who meet the eligibility criteria, are asked to submit their expression of interest through the registration link below.

Clinic Content

  • Underwater Kicks & Breakouts
  • Turns
  • Starts & Finishes
  • There will be 3 groups of 16, rotating through the above sessions, with 6 coaches facilitating the workshop.
  • Numbers are strictly limited to 48 on a first in basis.

In addition, we will be hosting a session for parents/caregivers – “Being the best swim parent”. This will run from 10.30am-11.30am, capped at 50 attendees. The presenter will be Brant Best.

Eligibility

To be eligible to participate a swimmer must:

  • Be a member of a Swimming Gold Coast Swimming Club;
  • Be in the following age group categories: 12 – 14 years;
  • Ages as of the date of the camp – 20th January 2022;
  • Other standards TBC;
  • The 2021-2022 JX Qualifying times can be found here;
  • Seek the permission of their coach.

The intention of these workshops is to help you prepare for your most important event of the swimming year – or maybe even of your swimming career to date! For some swimmers, this will be your first Australian Age Meet, and for others you may have already taken part in the amazing experience of Australian Age! Your coaches have done a great job to get you to the point of achieving those elusive qualifying times – Swimming Gold Coast would like to support you with those extra 1 percenter’s that can help put the icing on the cake for your performance in April.

Swimmers who meet the eligibility criteria, are asked to submit their expression of interest through the registration link below. You will also need to RSVP for your parent/caregiver who would like to attend. Spaces are limited, so please be sure to RSVP as soon as you can.

This will be a tailored course for swimmers aged 16+ years Female and 17+ years Male, who have achieved or are within 2% of Australian Age (2022) Qualifying Times  and/or Australian Open (2022) Qualifying Times. Parents are also invited to attend a dedicated parents’ session which will assist in supporting your swimmer.

The intention of these workshops is to help you prepare for your most important event of the swimming year – or maybe even of your swimming career to date! For some swimmers, this will be your first Australian Age or Open Meet, and for others you may have already taken part in the amazing experience of Australian Age or Open!
