Swimming Gold Coast considers the development of our regions swimmers a high priority. Each year Swimming Gold Coast host a number of development activities aimed at financial members within our region. These events are invitation only and swimmers are invited to the events based upon both participation at events within the Swimming Gold Coast region as well as qualifying criteria set by the SGC Development Sub-Committee.

The following Development events have been scheduled within the SGC region.

  • Australian Age Preparation Clinic – Tuesday 19th January 2021
  • Australian Age / Open Preparation Clinic – Wednesday 20th January 2021
  • JX Bronze / Blue (9yrs – 13yrs) – Development Clinic – Thursday 21st January 2021
  • JX Gold / Silver (9yrs – 13yrs) – Development Clinic – Thursday 21st January 2021

The development events for the remainder of 2021 are currently under review due to restrictions in place around COVID-19.

Athlete Eligibility Criteria

Clinic Date:

Thursday 21st January 2021 – 10:00am – 11:30am

Description:

Swimming Gold Coast will be hosting a development clinic on Thursday 21st January from 10.00am till 11.30am at Gold Coast Performance Centre, Runaway Bay. This will be a junior skills workshop, preparing swimmers for the up and coming race meets and beyond. Swimmers who meet the eligibility criteria, are asked to submit their expression of interest through the registration link below.

Clinic Content

Focus for the session will be around racing skills:  

  • Underwater Kicks & Breakouts
  • Turns
  • Starts & Finishes

There will be 3 groups of 16, rotating through the above sessions, with 6 coaches facilitating the workshop. Numbers are strictly limited to 48 on a first in basis. 

In addition, we will be hosting a session for parents/caregivers – “Being the best swim parent”. This will run from 10.30am-11.30am, capped at 50 attendees. The presenter will be Brant Best.

Eligibility

To be eligible to participate a swimmer must:

  • Be a member of a Swimming Gold Coast Swimming Club;
  • Be in the following age group categories: 9 – 13 years;
  • Ages as of the date of the camp – 21st January 2021;
  • Have achieved a Bio Island Junior Excellence (JX) qualifying time (Gold or Silver standard only) as per the 2020-2021 Selection Criteria, for any qualifying meets conducted after 1st January 2020;
  • The 2020-2021 JX Qualifying times can be found here;
  • Seek the permission of their coach.

The invitation for attendance also requests that swimmers gain the approval of their coaches to attend the session. Please speak to your coach before you RSVP to the session.

No catering will be provided at these sessions, so please bring your own water and snacks.

Closing Date

Closing date for RSVP is at 5.00pm Friday 15th January 2021, or when the cap of 48 swimmers has been met.

Swim coaches have the ability to request the region to consider additional swimmers to be added to the development camp.  The coach will email the regional committee to request consideration with times of the swimmer.  Parents are to liaise with coaches regarding selection and addition to any development clinic.

A coach of a club who does not have a swimmer selected for the clinic can nominate a swimmer to attend the clinic provided a coach from the club also attends.

The Swimmer Selection Panel may amend these selection criteria at any time at its discretion in the best interests of the swimmers and the development of swimming for the region.

This will be a tailored course for swimmers aged 13-15 years Female and 14-16 years Male, who have achieved Australian Age (2021) Qualifying Times – QT LINK HERE. Parents are also invited to attend a dedicated parents’ session which will assist in supporting your swimmer.

The intention of these workshops is to help you prepare for your most important event of the swimming year – or maybe even of your swimming career to date! For some swimmers, this will be your first Australian Age Meet, and for others you may have already taken part in the amazing experience of Australian Age! Your coaches have done a great job to get you to the point of achieving those elusive qualifying times – Swimming Gold Coast would like to support you with those extra 1 percenter’s that can help put the icing on the cake for your performance in April.

Swimmers who meet the eligibility criteria, are asked to submit their expression of interest through the registration link below. You will also need to RSVP for your parent/caregiver who would like to attend. Spaces are limited, so please be sure to RSVP as soon as you can.

Building your Best Performance Mindset

Both facilitators are well experienced with swimmers and their needs and will provide you guidance and information that will help you perform to your best ability.  

Session 1 – 9.30am – 11.00am

  • Room 1 – Swimmers – Fueling for Training and Racing
  • Room 2 – Parents and Caregivers – Building Your Best Performance Mindset

Session 2 – 11.30am – 1.00pm

  • Room 1 – Swimmers – Building Your Best Performance Mindset
  • Room 2 – Parents and Caregivers – Fueling for Training and Racing

These sessions are designed to be interactive and informative – so bring plenty of questions. There will be no swimming for you on this day, we will be based in meeting rooms. Bring notepads, pens, snacks and water (no catering will be provided on the day).

To be eligible to participate a swimmer must:

  • Be a member of a Swimming Gold Coast Swimming Club;
  • Be in the following age group categories: Girls 13 – 15 years / Boys 14 – 16 years;
  • Ages as of the date of the camp – 19th January 2021;
  • Have achieved a Australian Age Qualifying Time which can be found here;
  • Sort the permission of their coach.

No catering will be provided at these sessions, so please bring your own water and snacks.

Closing date for RSVP is at 5.00pm Thursday 14th January 2021, or when the cap of 30 swimmers has been met.

Each year the following regions meet to compete for the Patron Shield

  • Swimming Gold Coast 
  • Brisbane Swimming Association
  • Wide Bay Swimming Association
  • Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association

The event for 2021 is currently scheduled to be held by the Darling Downs Region. Once more information is available, we will notify our members.

Rules and Conduct of the meet:

  • Competitors must be between the ages of 9 and 13 as at day of competition, TBC.
  • Swimmers can complete in a maximum of 3 individual and 2 relay events.
  • Freestyle relays are 10x25m and must consist of (2) swimmers from each age group- 9’s to 13’s. (Starting order is at the discretion of the Team Managers).
  • Regions may nominate two Relay Teams (A&B) for the 10x25m relays and for the aged (4 x 50m) medley relays and points will be awarded to all teams.
  • Multi Class events for swimmers 15 years and under, with a maximum of 4 individual events.
  • SQ rules apply, any disputes will be adjudicated by the Meet Referee.
  • This is a Short Course Qualifying Meet.

This is an “invitation only” event

Swimmers are invited by GCRSA to swim for the Gold Coast Region team, and the selection of the swimmers is at the discretion of the Swimming Gold Coast executive. The criteria, this year, as a result of the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, will be based on meet results  from Swimming Gold Coast Meets and Queensland Championship Meets from January 1st 2020. Swimmers that can swim and have met the criteria (at least top 4 in the region in any given event) in multiple events will be given preference.  

The Patrons Shield will be awarded, to the Team with the highest total points, on the following basis:

  • Individuals: 1st – 8 points; 2nd – 7 points; 3rd – 6points; 4th – 5 points; 5th – 4 points; 6th – 3 points; 7th – 2 points; 8th – 1 point.
  • Relays: Double points of those for Individual Events.
