Development Squads

Swimming Gold Coast considers the development of our regions swimmers a high priority. Each year Swimming Gold Coast host a number of development activities aimed at financial members within our region. These events are invitation only and swimmers are invited to the events based upon both participation at events within the Swimming Gold Coast region as well as qualifying criteria set by the SGC Development Sub-Committee.

The following Development events have been scheduled within the SGC region. Dates can be found in our events calendar by filtering on “swimming Gold Coast – Development Events” under the ‘Categories’ tab. (Note: It is possible for published dates to change)

Athlete Eligibility Criteria

Swimming Clinics:

  • Junior Gold, Silver & Bronze Junior Development Clinics 2019.

Selection:

  • 2018/2019 JX Categories & Qualifying Standards that are published by Swimming Australia. The swimmers preferably have competed in the 2018/2019 Swimming Gold Coast Regional LC Championships and / or Winter SC Championships.

Eligibility

To be considered for selection a swimmer must:

  • Be a member of a Swimming Gold Coast Swimming Club.
  • Be in the following age group categories: Girls 9 – 10 years & Boys 10 – 11 years.
  • Ages as of the camp

Minimum Performance Requirements
JX Qualifying Standard in the appropriate category for a specific Clinic:

  • Swim a time that equals or betters the specific JX Qualifying Standard for the particular age group.
  • Long Course times used only as per the JX Qualifying standards
  • Short Course times used only as per the JX Qualifying standards
  • The swimmer must have attended a Regional Championship event.

Clinic Dates

1)Gold, Saturday 29 June 2019.

2)Bronze, Thursday 26 September 2019.

3)Gold, Wednesday 2 October 2019.

4)Silver, Thursday 3 October 2019.

All Clinics will be from 10am – 12.30 noon (including all activities).

Clinic Content

Each level of Gold, Silver or Bronze clinic will have a slightly different educational content based around the importance of Fundamental Swimming Skills such as:

  • Pre-Pool Preparation & Activation.
  • Core Body Alignment & Floatation Skills.
  • Sculling & Water Feel.
  • Starting Progressions & Streamlining.
  • Dolphin Kicking.
  • Turns
  • Drills, Skills, Swimming Technique & Coordination.
  • Team Relays.

Team Size

40 swimmers

Notes

Swim coaches have the ability to request the region to consider additional swimmers to be added to the development camp.  The coach will email the regional committee to request consideration with times of the swimmer.  Parents are to liaise with coaches regarding selection and addition to any development clinic.

A coach of a club who does not have a swimmer selected for the clinic can nominate a swimmer to attend the clinic provided a coach from the club also attends.

The Swimmer Selection Panel may amend these selection criteria at any time at its discretion in the best interests of the swimmers and the development of swimming for the region.

Athlete Eligibility Criteria

Swimming Clinics:

  • Junior –Youth Stroke Development Camps 2019

Selection:

Consideration will be given to swimmers who have competed in the 2018/2019 Swimming Gold Coast Regional Championships, Swimming Gold Coast Regional Club Meets, SQ State Championships and National Age Championships 2019.

Only Long Course Times from 1 May 2018 to 30 April 2019 will be considered.

Eligibility

To be considered for selection a swimmer must:

  • Be a member of a Swimming Gold Coast Swimming Club.
  • Be in the following age group categories:

Girls 16 years and under

Boys 17 years and under

  • Age as at camp date.
  • Consideration may be given to swimmers older than the age group categories if a request from the coach is put forward and it is deemed appropriate with regard to the athlete’s development.

Category Strokes
Minimum Performance Requirements

1) The Highest top 6 Ranked Swimmers in each event listed below.  This will be a total of 12 swimmers (6 girls & 6 boys) on each of the below strokes:

  1. Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke 100m events.

2) The Highest top 8 Ranked Swimmers in each event listed below. This will be a total of 16 swimmers (12 girls & 12 boys) on each of the event categories.

  1. Freestyle 100m event

3) The Highest top 6 ranked swimmers in each event listed below.  This will be a total of 12 swimmers (6 girls & 6 boys) on each of the combined event categories:

  1. Freestyle 400m event

Rankings based on times provided from Swimming Queensland’s Team Manager Database.

Clinic Dates

Thursday 4th July 2019

The clinic will be from 8am – 10:45am (including all activities)

Clinic Content

Each Clinic will have an educational component based around:

  • Pre Swim Preparation & Activation
  • Swimming Technique & Swimming Skills.
  • Stroke Counting & Stroke Efficiency.
  • Pacing of Sets.
  • Aerobic & Race Specific Development.
  • Team Relays.
  • Bringing the Best Swimmers of the SGC Region to Perform Together.

Team Size

Will be 6 swimmers in each of the Girls & Boys 100m Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke & 400m Freestyle. There will be 8 Boys and Girls selected for the 100m Freestyle.

Notes

  • Swim coaches have the ability to request the region to consider additional swimmers to be added to the development camp.  The coach will email the regional committee to request consideration with times of the swimmer.  Parents are to liaise with coaches regarding selection and addition to any development clinic.

    Consideration may be given to additional swimmers if a request from the coach is put forward and it is deemed appropriate with regard to the athlete’s development. For example this may be the situation in events outside the selection process.

    The Swimmer Selection Panel may amend these selection criteria at any time at its discretion in the best interests of the swimmers and the development of swimming for the region.

Athlete Eligibility Criteria

Swimming Clinics:

  • Junior Development Clinics 200m IM and 200m FREE 2019

Selection:

The swimmers must also have competed in the Swimming Gold Coast Regional Championships.

Swimmers will be selected on 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle times swum at the 2019 SGC LC Championships held on Friday, 8 March and Saturday, 9 March 2019.

Eligibility

To be considered for selection a swimmer must:

  • Be a member of a Swimming Gold Coast Swimming Club.
  • Be in the following age group categories: Girls 11 – 13 years & Boys 12 – 14 years.
  • Competed at SGC Regional LC Championships, Friday 8 March 2019 for the 1st Clinic on Wednesday 3 July 2019.
  • Competed at SGC Regional SC Championships, Saturday 3 August 2019 for the 2nd Clinic on Tuesday 1 October 2019.
  • Age determination is as at the date of the clinic. Swimmers will be selected based on rankings at that age.

Minimum Performance Requirements

The top 8 Ranked swimmers in each of the age group and event categories of 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle, aged as at the clinic date.

  • The selection meets will be the SGC Regional Championships (Winter and Summer) as detailed above.

Clinic Dates

  1. Wednesday 3 July 2019 – Long Course Selection
  2. Tuesday 1 October 2019 – Short Course Selection

All Clinics will be from 7:30am – 11:00am (including all activities).

Clinic Content

Each Clinic will have an educational component based around:

  • Swimming Technique & Swimming Skills.
  • Stroke Counting & Stroke Efficiency.
  • Pacing of Sets.
  • Aerobic & Speed Development.
  • Team Relays.
  • Bringing the Best Swimmers of the SGC Region to Perform Together.
  • Plus a Classroom or Land based Educational Component

Team Size
A maximum of four swimmers in each of the age group categories in each of 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle. This will be a total of 24 swimmers (12 girls & 12 boys) on each of 200m Individual Medley and 200m Freestyle Clinics (Maximum 48 swimmers)

Each year the following regions meet to compete for the Patron Shield

  • Swimming Gold Coast 
  • Brisbane Swimming Association
  • Wide Bay Swimming Association
  • Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association

Rules and Conduct of the meet:

  • Competitors must be between the ages of 9 and 13 as at day of competition, Sunday, 23rd September 2018.
  • Swimmers can complete in a maximum of 3 individual and 2 relay events.
  • Freestyle relays are 10x25m and must consist of (2) swimmers from each age group- 9’s to 13’s. (Starting order is at the discretion of the Team Managers)
  • Regions may nominate two Relay Teams (A&B) for the 10x25m relays and points will be awarded to all teams.
  • Multi Class events for swimmers 15 years and under, with a maximum of 4 individual events.
  • SQ rules apply, any disputes will be adjudicated by the Meet Referee.
  • This is a Short Course Qualifying Meet.

This is an “invitation only” event

Swimmers are invited by GCRSA to swim for the Gold Coast Region team, and the selection is with the fastest swimmers being invited over meet results from Swimming Gold Coast Meets and Championships for short course of the current year.  A swimmers can only compete in 3 individual events. This makes it quite a task to get the selection right to ensure the region has the right mix of swimmers for the relays and the 3 individual events.

The Patrons Shield will be awarded, to the Team with the highest total points, on the following basis:

  • Individuals: 1st – 8 points; 2nd – 7 points; 3rd – 6points; 4th – 5 points; 5th – 4 points; 6th – 3 points; 7th – 2 points; 8th – 1 point.
  • Relays: Double points of those for Individual Events.
