Incredible weekend of all-weather racing
The 2022 Swimming Gold Coast was a weekend that had everything - cold, sunny parts, warm, sunny parts, rainy parts and cold, windy, cloudy parts, but most importantly it had around 500 wonderful swimmers from 20 clubs from within the Gold Coast Region doing their best throughout the 54 events on offer to achieve their immediate goals, propelling them on to bigger and better things as the season progresses. From our youngest 8yr olds up to some incredible Australian Dolphins, all of the swimmers raced, had fun, created new PB's, new friends and learnt from their swims.
We had an incredible 45 records broken over the weekend (list can be found below), which is a special achievement given the incredible history of swimming from within Swimming Gold Coast, one of the best swimming regions in the world; which shows fantastic potential for the years ahead. Incredibly, St Hilda's Multi-Class swimmer, Alexa Leary, provisionally broke two S9 category World Records during the meet - a phenomenal results, congratulations Alexa.
On top of that, I would like to congratulate each and every swimmer for their efforts over the weekend and hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Furthermore, SGC would like to congratulate Somerset GC Swim Club for taking out the points score over the Championships, slightly ahead of Helensvale and Miami in 3rd. Full club point scores can be found below.
Finally, I would like to thank all of the SGC Committee for once again putting together a great weekend, each and every technical official for giving up their weekend to provide a fair and equitable competition and to all of our volunteers from timekeeping, medal presentation and BBQ duties, it would be impossible to conduct a meet without you all, so thank you.
Good luck to those swimmers pushing on to QLD SC Championships from the 12th August, as well as those swimmers in contention for the upcoming Patron Shield and Inter Regional Challenge representative teams.
